EverClean Nashville | Expert Pet Odor Removal

Notice: As of 4/7/2026, we are no longer offering subsurface pet odor treatment or any odor removal service below the carpet, rug, wood, tile or upholstery. Please refer to our DIY pet odor removal guide for comprehensive instructions on how to treat pet odors below carpet. After offering this service for over a decade, we have found that it carries a much higher rate of complaint than success. This is not because we provided inferior service, but that the service has too many obstacles to deliver precise results. A few of these obstacles are listed below.

  1. There is a widely believed misconception that cleaning their carpet solves the pet odor issue without realizing that the source of the odor is in the carpet pad and wood or concrete subfloor below.
  2. Pet urine causes far more damage to all types of flooring than most of people realize. Our accepting the liability to remove pet urine odor from carpet pad, wood subfloors, porous grout or foam cushions puts more liability on us than we care to bear.
  3. Locating pet urine with a UV light should be done at night – not during the day. Most residential homes do not have adequate window shades for us to locate all the urine spots, so the results vary based the level of sunlight in the room.
  4. Pet urine cannot stain polyester carpet. If the urine spot has been previously cleaned, we cannot find it with a UV light. Searching with a moisture meter is possible, but very time consuming and any metal in the floor can give a false reading.
  5. Significant odor elimination is possible, but it requires far more time than the instant-results most customers expect. Many carpet cleaning companies offer oxygen-based treatments or fragrances, but these are only temporary. We use Ur-OUT, which is a probiotic digestive bacteria that eliminates the odor, but it takes two to four weeks or longer for significant, permanent results.

How we approach pet odor is by first by eliminating the source of the malodor. Because the best odor remover is cleanliness, we first look to provide the best mechanical cleaning possible for complete odor elimination. We also offer biological odor eliminators for

Our first step is to use an ultra violet light. UV light allows us to see organic stains such pet urine, feces, blood, milk, etc. Other odors are quite obvious such as cigarette smoke or pet dander. From there we determine the source and its size. By applying specific cleaners, deodorizers and odor counteractants, we effectively eliminate carpet odors for good.

Pet Odor Removal Process

EverClean Nashville offers dog urine and cat odor removal at the source. Pet urine is a problem of the pad and not the carpet. This means the visual pet urine stain is only the tip of the iceberg! Pet urine contains high levels of uric salt, which is why your urine stains and odors return.

Known as wicking, the salt re-evaporates from the pad to the surface on days of high precipitation. The moisture also allows the bacteria, which is attracted to the uric salt, to continue off-gassing ammonia. Unfortunately dog urine and pet odor issues will continue off-gassing until the nitrogen found within pet urine is eliminated.

EverClean Nashville removes pet urine odors from your carpet exactly how Mother Nature does, with the use of probiotic bacteria. Our bacterial spores release countless enzymes on contact to start digesting the nitrogen found within the urine salt.

Treating pet urine in carpet may require additional treatments if it is an area of repeat contamination and if it has saturated the hardwood and/or concrete subfloor beneath. The only way to guarantee complete pet urine odor removal is to replace the carpet, pad, and wood or concrete subfloor beneath. We are confident we can remove your pet urine odors for cleaner, better smelling home.

Untreated, subsurface urine can begin to off-gas more vigorously after the cleaning due to water absorption. We recommend our moisture meter instead of a UV light, though it is time consuming.
